Against The Grain

I feel like we are getting a theme here on the web page.  This is the third or fourth post where we thank the Predators for supporting AtG.  We received notice this week that we are one of the organizations that has been approved to receive a grant from the Nashville Predators Foundation.  They are giving AtG funds to perform background checks on volunteers with the mentoring programs and they are providing funds for us to take 30 kids on our first ever Leadership Camp.  We will take these kids to a camp the week before they go back to school and emphasis their need to be leaders.  Thanks again Nashville Predators.  You have been an incredible blessing.

The Nashville Predators Foundation has on two seperate occassions donated tickets for Against the Grain to take some kids to a hockey game.  The first game we were given 10 tickets and the second game 25.  I have to tell you this story though.  The first game we went to ended in a 4 to 4 tie.  The announcer came over the PA system to describe how overtime would work "The game has ended regulation in a tie and we will enter into a 5 minute 5 on 5 overtime.  If no one scores during the overtime period we will enter into a shootout."  When the boys heard "shootout" they jumped up out of their seats and screamed "SHOOTOUT…YOU MEAN THEY GOT GUNS IN HERE?"  Meredith and I were laughing so loud we could not explain what a shootout in hockey was.  I still laugh as I think back on that night, but it reminds me that these kids face challenges that I cannot fully understand.  Thanks again Preds…NOW LET'S GO GET THE CUP! 

Both Williamson County and Franklin Special School Districts will be closing today due to the potential of tornadic activity in Franklin.  Reach & Teach is cancelled when either school system is closed due to weather.  We will continue regular tutoring schedule next week.
